Paya:Dyo Jatra

0:00

Paya:Dyo Jatra (Sword Jatra-Khadka Jatra ) of Taleju Bhawani of Bhaktapur was concluded last night on the occasion of Papankusha Ekadashi, the 11th day of Baradshah. Wearing a red cloth and red armor around the feet (sword deity) completed the procession, which is supposed to be Taleju Bhawani‘s visage. The procession began after the original Achhaju and Taleju priest were handed over to Rajopadhyay. During the procession, Taleju’s Rajopadhyay carries the footsteps in his hand and leads them from Taleju Mulchowk to Bekochok, where they are worshipped and seen by the public.

Navadurga, who had been waiting in line, gives various mantras to the goddesses after reaching Swarnaddhar (Golden Gate) at Layaku (Durbar Square). It is traditional to go on a pilgrimage with the Navdurga Devgana after getting the mantra from Taleju Bhawani. Similarly, Taleju’s white horse, which served as an excuse, was ridden about the city. The procession is celebrated across the city on a white Horse(Tuiema Salla), based on the idea that the Taleju will come at midnight on Vijayadashami.

Taleju Bhawani was worshipped by Taleju‘s four primary heroes, Achhaju, Joshi, and Rajopadhyay, during the procession.

According to Saita (Specific Date), because the white horse’s voyage is depending on the date and speed of the lunar month, it is traditional to go around the city from the higher and lower tolls.

Each year at midnight on Vijaya Dashami, the astrologer chose Nhyayegu (riding up) or Kwa (riding down) based on the motion of the moon (riding down). The toll is disseminated from the palace area to Khauma, Ittachhen, Bharvacho, Banshagopal, Bhujikokha, and Narayanchowk, and from the upper palace area to Khichhen, Chochhen, Bholachhen, Thalachhen, Dattatraya, Golmadhi, Sukuldhoka, and Taumadhi.

When riding the white horse around the city, it is usual to simply ride it to the Tachhpal (Dattatraya) of the upper toll. Because Goddess Bramhayani’s excuse on the east side of Bhaktapur city is also a white horse, legend has claimed that Bramhayani will adopt Taleju’s excuse as her own.
