“Kha: Pihanvaigu’ Parade has ended, glimpse of Malla period war

Madhyapur Thimi‘s Kha: Pihanvaigu Jatra is thought to be three centuries old. The parade is thought to have begun in commemoration of the soldiers who had won the war at the time. At Adarsh Secondary School in Layaku (Royal Place) in Madhyapur Thimi, Malla era, was packed with people. A white-clad soldier, wearing a helmet on his head and holding a two-armed sword, a dagger, and a hat with an iron chain, a shield in one hand and a sword in the other, emerged from the front door of Layaku, where Taleju Bhavani is located.

For a brief moment, this Madhyapur Thimi sight afforded a glimpse of Malla Period. A ‘Kha: Pihanwaigu’ procession going from Layaku, Madhyapur Thimi, represents the Malla era conflict on the 11th day of Mohani Nakha:(Bada Dashain), on the day of Papankusha Ekadashi. Soldiers marched around the city during the procession, displaying martial skills as an attack on  war. The procession began at Layaku, traveled through Niguh-Pukhu(Dui-Pokhari) in town, circled the Digu Bhailadyo Temple, and returned to the Balkumari temple. After beating Pumpkin -Bhuifasi (Kubindo) and reaching the Balkumari temple grounds, the procession came to an end .

Pumpkin -Bhuifasi (Kubindo) was beaten to death by troops wielding knives, swords, and swords after Nayopa ( Taleju High Priest) permit. The soldiers’ presentation of the Malla Era martial art, as well as the spectacle of hitting the ground, are two of the procession’s key attractions. The action was witnessed by a large throng of people who had assembled on the grounds of the Balkumari temple.

It’s said that if you eat a piece Pumpkin -Bhuifasi (Kubindo), you won’t become sick. As a result, getting a piece of Pumpkin -Bhuifasi (Kubindo) is challenging. During the parade, Male Buffalo’s head was also carried around.

There was a Taleju Bhavani temple where the palace once stood in ancient times. On Mahanavami, as a representation of the Mahishasura demon, Male Buffalo  is sacrificed to Taleju. In local dialect, the Male Buffalo  is known as Kha Mey . During the Kha: Pihanwaigu Jatra , it is usual to have the head of the same Kha Mey circumambulate the city.
