Gai (Cow) Tihar/ Laxmi Puja- Worshipping the Goddess of Wealth

In the morning of the third day, they worship the Cow. In Hindu mythology, the cow is considered Goddess Laxmi and is regarded as a sacred animal. Since ancient times, the Cow has provided enormous benefits to the people. Purification ceremonies include the use of milk, dung, and urine. Since we have been drinking milk since we were children, the cow is also seen as a mother. As a token of gratitude, the cow is presented with Tika, garland, and delectable meals on this day.

Cleaning and decorating the houses takes up the entire afternoon the following day. Red mud and cow excrement are used to paint the houses. On the main gateway of the house, colorful Rangoli of various designs are created, with a candle or a Diyo lit in the center. Small footsteps are created by mixing flour with color and painting them from the Rangoli to the Puja area. The goddess Laxmi is said to follow these footprints into the house.

The evening is very memorable since it includes the devotion of Goddess Laxmi, the Goddess of Wealth. People worship money and other other properties in addition to the Goddess. The people ask the Goddess to visit them in their homes and bless them with money and good fortune. While the elders are busy worshiping the Goddess in the evening, the children sing Deusi and Bhailo songs and and dancing on various songs to their neighbors.
